Papoulias Rallies Greeks Abroad For March 25

PapouliasGreek President Karolos Papoulias has called on Greeks of the Diaspora to remember the meaning of Greek Independence Day on March 25 and the struggle by Greeks to free themselves from 400 years of Turkish occupation without giving up their identity, language or culture.
“The 25th of March message remains alive and seasonable. In 1821 we fought in order to become a free and independent state. Today, with patriotic resistance, we devote ourselves to the struggle for our State’s reorganization, to probe into and defend democratic rights, to protect social cohesion, to stabilize Greece’s appropriate position in the European States community, to defend the country’s dominance and to support the interests of all of Hellenism,” he said in his message, asking them for their support during the country’s crushing economic crisis.
“Your solidarity and commitment –wherever you are, promoters of our own values and ideals, apostles of philhellenism in your new countries- as well as the persuasion that your thoughts and actions are stably directed to Greece, strengthen our people in order to struggle for recovery,” he said. He added that, “The crisis supervenes and a wider convulsion hits the European structure. However, despite the unprecedented difficulties, Greece will remain standing, where past parameters of stability and security have been wavered or doubted.”
