Tavern Attack Fugitive ID'd As Escapee

Trikala-prison-escapeeAfter a nationwide manhunt on March 31, Marko Kola, an Albanian convict, who escaped from a Trikala prison along with 10 inmates nine days earlier, has been identified as one of the bandits involved in an armed attack on a tavern near Thebes.
The gunmen opened fire with the police who were chasing their vehicle near the Corinth Canal, which resulted in the death of a 25 year-old- woman caught in the crossfire as she was driving by.
The police found Kola’s fingerprints in the SUV used as the bandits’ getaway vehicle, which they eventually abandoned after evading the police. The bullet that killed the young woman was identified from the Kalashnikov that was used at the tavern hold-up.
In 2010, Kola and an accomplice took weapons from two patrolmen. After being located by the police the next day and pursued by car in Vyrona, Athens, they opened fire and threw hand grenades at the policemen. A 25-year-old Albanian worker was caught in the crossfire and killed.
All 11 fugitives wanted are Albanians convicted of crimes, among which armed robbery. Three have already been apprehended.
