To mark the centennial anniversary of the Balkan Wars outbreak, the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarianism and Democracy is hosting an exhibit The Unknown Front of the Balkan Wars: The Administrative Incorporation of the New Lands.
The aim of this exhibit is to introduce today’s younger generations on a lesser-known struggle of that era which started at the same time with the liberation and annexation of the new lands.
It will run through the end of May 2013, and is open to the public on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Foundation’s exhibition hall (14 Amalias Boulevard) off Syntagma Square.
Photographs, newspapers, administrative decisions, tables and charts of the times, official correspondence are on display, the Greek news agency ANA reported. The audience will be given the opportunity to get to know both the highlighted difficulties and achievements of the era during which Greece had to incorporate into its boundaries the populations of Macedonia, Epirus, Crete, and Samos, the islands of the northeastern Aegean and Thrace as well.
The narration begins with a historical review of the military, diplomatic and political events of the 1912-1922 decade. The material comes from the National History Museum, the Historic and Diplomatic Archives of the Foreign Ministry, the Historic Archives of Macedonia and Thrace, the Eleftherios Venizelos’ National Research and Studies Foundation, the Library of Parliament, the Gennadeios Library, as well as private collections from all over Greece where important documents of the country’s history are preserved.
