Rhodes remains the favorite European holiday destination, the website TripAdvisor’s recent survey showed. Rhodes, the largest of the Dodecanese islands in the eastern Aegean Sea, is also the fifth most popular holiday destination worldwide, according to the same survey.
Historically, Rhodes is famous for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a Woprld Heritage Site.
People from all over the world come to Rhodes to spend their holidays. Visitors come summer after summer to relax and enjoy themselves. It’s also close by favorite islands such as Halki, where most vehicles are banned.
This year’s tourisc season has started and the first air charters have landed on Rhodes International Airport, Diagoras. In the coming days a massive arrival of tourists is expected in the island as the economic crisis does not to have affected tourists’ preference in Rhodes. The number of tourists who will visit Rhodes this summer is expected to be bigger than last year, which is very encouraging for Rhodes market.
