Boy Eating Bird's Food Best Greek Film

boy eating the bird's foogThe Greek Film Academy awards ceremony chose Boy Eating Bird’s Food, directed by Ektoras Lygizos, as the Best Film of the year. Academy President Katerina Evangelakou, noted that the award “does not mean only distinction and rewarding but duty as well, especially in a country where the culture is marked by defiance and political cynicism is always there.”
Lygizos was given also the Best Debut Director award. The main character of the movie, Giannis Papadopoulos won Best Actor award for his performance, while Amalia Moutousi got the Best Actress award for her performance in the film Hara’ directed by Elias Giannakakis.
In Lygizos’ movie the character Yorgos (Yiannis Papadopoulos) is an educated young man estranged from friends and family whose only companion is his chirpy pet canary. Unemployed, penniless and eventually evicted from his rundown apartment, Yorgos is dominated by a single, overriding drive: hunger.
The ceremony, which was held at the House of Arts and Letters, was led by Simos Kakalas and presenters of the event were the actors Vaso Kavalieratou and Makis Papadimitriou.
Among those giving awards to the winners were Costas Voutsas, sculptor Diohantil author of bestseller The Island, Victoria Hislop’ one of the youngest Greek puppeteer Konstantinos Vamvakaris, and professor of ASKT, Marios Spiliopoulos.
