Threat Note For Anastasiades, Banker

2D988EE762152F5BD02B3CCBCA5102CFNewly-elected Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, who is imposing a plan he had previously opposed that will confiscate big chunks of bank deposits, and Central Bank Chief Panicos Demetriades were the subjects of a threatening note, the newspaper Politis reported.
It was dated March 20 as Cyprus was still negotiating terms of a 10 billion euros ($13 billion) bailout with international lenders who demanded harsh conditions, including the seizure of some bank assets. Depositors with more than 100,000 euros ($130,000) in the state banks could lose 80 percent of their money.
The note was anonymous but referred to the senders as “Deposits’ rescue band, sworn until deathl.” The note also threatened the families of the President and bank chief.
The note said it was a warning to the men but that it was not a bluff and that the senders intimated they know how to get at Anastasiades and Demetriades and their families and that they might also target other officials they believe are responsible for the island country’s economic crisis.
They say that they have connections with paid killers, do not mention any political party or organizations, and demanded an end to the confiscation plan. Politis reported that Demetriades wife and children have left Cyprus in order to be safe.
