The incident took place on the night of April 14, at a 74-year old woman’s house, in the centre of Kozani. The case began to unfold when neighbors heard screams from the house and called the police. When the police entered the house, they found the woman dead in a pool of blood.
The coroner, who also arrived at the house, found that the 74-year-old woman had “total excision of anterior cervical region and facial trauma caused by knife.” The neighbors told the police that shortly before the murder, they had seen the woman’s son entering the house.
Shortly after midnight, the police found and arrested the 49-year-old man, who, according to a police announcement, confessed to murdering his mother. He also had the murder weapon.
During the last days before the massacre, it is said that there were arguments between the perpetrator and the victim. According to the coroner, the unfortunate woman’s body bore multiple injuries. The 49-year-old man, who had been hospitalized in a psychiatric institution in the past, is detained at the police station.
