CHD Treatment Based on Greek Scientist's Idea

medicineThe CosmoPHOS-nano Project, whose opening meeting was held in Thessaloniki, aims at the creation of an innovative system for the treatment, diagnosis and effectiveness of the treatment of atherosclerotic heart disease (Coronary Heart Disease-CHD) based on nanotechnology.
This program started with an idea of Greek cardiologist Panagiotis Trochopoulos and today his research team includes more than 13 Universities and Research Institutes from abroad and six  innovative companies from 11 European countries. The research team members are renowned researchers, clinicians and senior employees from the fields of nanotechnology, physics, chemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, toxicology, nanotoxicology, pharmaceutical nanotechnology, medical device technology, molecular imaging, molecular medicine, nanomedicine and clinical research in cardiology.
As program coordinator, Trochopoulos said that the CosmoPHOS-nano Project is the world’s biggest program for the research and development of nanomedicine in cardiology and the world’s first in the history of medicine to experimentally apply nanomedical technology to patients suffering from CHD, which is the leading cause of death and morbidity worldwide.
The program started on 1st March, 2013 and will be completed on 28th February, 2018 with a total budget of 12,900,000 euros. It is co-financed with 4,400,000 euros by all members and with 8,500,000 euros by the 7th Framework Program for Research and Technological Development of the EU.
