Mind Games, an international educational seminar on inter-religious dialogue, mass media and peaceful conflict resolution is taking place in the Greek town of Komotini from April 12-20.
It is funded by the European Commission in the framework of its program New Generation in Action and organized by the non-profit organization System & G, with the support of the Europe Direct Information Center of Komotini.
Twenty four young people from Greece, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Sweden, Latvia, Israel and Palestine will participate in the games for more than a week.
“Participants’ selection was targeted among young people who work in various organizations, which try to promote inter-religious dialogue around the regions they live, where are conflicts,” Argiris Houlias, one of the organizers stated.
“Sweden receives more than 100,000 migrants per year. Consequently, there has been created a multicultural environment and methods to promote inter-religious dialogue have been developed. Latvia is a less characteristic sample, but there has been developed inter-religious dialogue as a result of Christian Orthodox, Catholics and Protestants coexistence,” noted Houlias explaining the participation of representatives of Sweden and Latvia in the seminar.
Through methods of non-typical education, as discussions, simulations and work groups among other, the participants have the opportunity to re-examine matters that trouble citizens and the society nowadays and to gain knowledge in order to play an active role in promoting inter-religious dialogue.
Houlias clarified that the 24 young people came in Komotini both to gain theoretic knowledge and to be educated so as they will be able to educate others back in their countries.
Jørgen Johansen, the internationally renowned trainer on such issues, with practical work in more than 30 countries, has visited Komotini in order to offer his knowledge participating in Mind Games. “We split into groups and discuss about various conflicts that trouble many regions (…) we develop methods and tools, which the participants can apply back home. It is about a mixture of theory and practice” said Johansen.
