Art-Athina Fair in May

artFirst launched in 1993 by the Hellenic Art Galleries Association, Art-Athina stands today as one of the longest-lasting contemporary art fairs in Europe and the largest annual visual arts event in Greece, attracting 18,000 visitors. A meeting point for international artistic creation, Art-Athina brings together significant Greek and foreign art galleries, cultural institutions, curators, collectors, art critics and art lovers.

This year’s Art Athina is in a far better financial position having received 480,000 euros from the ESPA program of the EU. The fair hopes to gather at its Faliro venue the most important art galleries, cultural institutions, curators, museums, art theorists, art critics and journalists from Greece, as well as galleries, institutions and individuals from abroad who know and will enhance Greek art and its people.

The fair will present more than 800 artists from four continents, and will unfold a rich parallel program composed of speeches, round tables, presentations, exhibitions of new and already established artists and interactive activities.

Marina Fokidis is the responsible curator for the Symposia, during which international personalities from the visual arts will hold speeches, such as Juan A. Gaitan (curator of the Berlin Biennial 2014), Alya Sebti (Artistic Director of the 5th Marrakech Biennale), Marieke van Hal (Founding Director of Biennial Foundation), Kaelen Wilson-Goldie (writer and critic based in Beirut), and Adnan Yildiz (Artistic Director of Künstlerhaus Stuttgart) and others. Artemis Potamianou organizes the Platform Project and curates the Contemporaries exhibition. The 18th edition of the Fair will also feature a VIP program for dealers and art collectors from around the world.
