Chinese Investors Eye Greek Airports

airportWith China looking ever more closer at investments in Greece, the Finance Ministry in Athens said that Chinese investors have “confirmed interest” in Greek airports that are due to be privatized.
Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras met in Athens on April 18  with a delegation from the operators of Shenzhen Airport in southern China and the Hong Kong-based Friedmann Pacific Asset Management. Ministry officials said the Chinese company was keen on Athens International Airport and 37 regional airports.
Greece is seeking to reduce its 55 percent stake in the Athens airport and extend a private concession agreement that expires in 2026. Greece is under pressure from international lenders to speed the pace of selling off its assets, including state-owned companies as well as state properties and lands to get critical revenues and help write down the country’s staggering debt of nearly $400 billion.
