Twenty-nine-year-old Ilias Vrohidis along with his 33-year-old girlfriend Christina Pefani are going to travel around Africa and the Middle East on their motorbikes for about two years, having just a backpack with only the necessary- a pair of trousers, a shirt, a tent, sleeping bags, gas cooking canisters and a pot to heat food.
On May 18, they will ride their motorbikes and embark on their beautiful journey together, crossing 40 countries and travel from 100,000 to 150,000 kilometers, depending on their money.
Most nights they will be camping out in nature, in beautiful landscapes and deserted places, away from residential areas. They will cook simple meals with the help of the gas cooking canister, while they will be eating in galley kitchens mostly frequented by locals. They will explore some picturesque villages, wondrous oases, small tribe settlements, with the greatest challenge of all, the Sahara desert.
Ilias and Christina decided to call their journey, Mad About Africa. Both of them have had the required vaccines, given that health conditions in African countries are hazardous, and have worked out the details of their long journey.
“This journey is not a simple trip just for pleasure and relaxation. On the contrary, it is an adventurous trip. In fact, there are certain areas along this trip, which are dangerous and should be given special attention” says Ilias.
The 29-year-old Thessalonian said that, “I begin a journey out of love I feel towards nature and man. To meet people who live differently, with a different mentality, a different culture.”
