Greek Student Election Apathy Rules

12564444.limghandlerOnly about two-third of Greek university students eligible to vote for representatives on their school’s boards voted this year with a sharp rise in abstentions.
The student organization of DAP (from the New Democracy Conservatives governing party) collected  the majority of the votes. The support for the student organization of PASP (the PASOK Socialists) dropped off sharply. The students elections were conducted around Greece on April 17.
Only around 100,000 came to vote, compared to 130,000 student who voted last year. DAP collected 42 percent of the votes while PASP followed with 15 percent. PKS (the Communist Party) got 14.5 percent; EAAK (United Independent Left Movement) collected 9.5 percent; AREN (Left Union, adjacent to SYRIZA) was supported by 5,5 percent although the party is running neck-and-neck with New Democracy for first place in surveys.
The results were published after the counting of 92 out of 2002 of the student associations in Greece. The results are skewed, however, as every student organization has a different version.
