XanthiThe city of Xanthi, in northern Greece, will welcome people from different parts of Greece in an event to discover the culture of the region. Dance troupes from Greece and Diaspora will be there to participate in the 1st Pan-Hellenic Cultural Gathering of Thrace, which will take place from July 5-7.
The event will be opened by dance troupes of Thrace and the next day guests from the USA, Australia, Europe and various parts of Greece will take up the torch. On July 7, the events will be completed with a concert dedicated to the great woman, musicologist and folklorist from Xanthi, Melpo Logotheti-Merlier.
Hundreds of volunteers are working feverishly for the success of the festival, which is placed under the auspices of the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace. The Hellenic Electronic Center is responsible for the coordination, while the organizers are the Lyceum of Greek Women and Progressive Association of Xanthi.
While speaking to AMNA, Paschalis Xanthopoulos, from the Progressive Association of Xanthi, described the enthusiasm with which the Cultural Gathering was greeted, stressing that so far, the participation of more than 40 troupes off Thrace is already finalized. In fact, the dances will last longer than initially planned, because of the great participation.
In the framework of the parallel events, the guests will have the opportunity to explore places of historical and archaeological importance, as well as to attend seminars of folk dance and music and workshops of the Greek shadow theatre-Karagiozis.
