American Journalists Lured By Greek culture

A61BC6C9EC49B3D895BE9C8BD108DF79Greeceā€™s Cultural Affairs Deputy Minister Costas Tzavaras along with the managers of the Byzantine and Christian Museum, on April 25 welcomed American journalists specializing in art, culture, tourism and well-being who came to see an exhibit that will go to the U.S.
Journalists from radio, electronic media as well as from the most acclaimed American magazines for culture and tourism such as Smithsonian Magazine and National Geographic Traveler, and the British Apollo as well, toured the museum halls.
Tzavaras told the visitors before a meal in the garden of the Byzantine Museum, ā€œWelcome to one of the most important museums of our country. In Athens, where this museum is located, as you can all see, the spiritual splendor of this city is undoubtedly not lost, but thus remains part of the unbroken continuity of Greek history.”
Deborah Ziska, the Press Officer of the National Gallery in Washington, where for the first time an exhibition of Byzantine art is to be held, was the team leader of the foreign visitors. The hospitality and generosity of the Greeks, combined with some exceptional Byzantine artworks, was the dominant impression among the Americans who expressed their admiration.
The exhibit, which will include some noted Byzantine artworks from 330 AD to 1453, was organized by the General Secretariat for Culture in collaboration with the Benaki Museum and two featured American museums in which it will be held: the National Gallery of Art in Washington (October 2013 – March 2014) and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles (April-August 2014).
