Coke Invests In Greek Recycling Plant

6a00e54ef6ae5c883301156f94ed6d970c-320pi1Although moving its headquarters from Athens to Switzerland and giving up on Greece during its crushing economic crisis, Coca-Cola Hellenic said it has bought a minority stake in Filia Environmental Industries, which opened a new PET recycling plant, located in Filiates of Thesprotia.
The minor investment created 27 jobs and company officials said it’s part of a strategy to re-use recycled raw materials in its production process.
Vassilis Lollas, Public Affairs and Communications Manager of Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon, Greece stated, “This is the largest plastic recycling plant in Greece. PET is one of our key raw materials in our supply chain. In addition, this investment demonstrates our commitment in protecting and preserving the environment”.
The new facility will process used plastic (PET) bottles and recycle them to produce 100% recycled plastic flake which will then be used for a range of products such as plastic film, geotextiles, plastic fibres and pallets.
According to estimations, the recycling plant in Filiates will be able to process approximately 12,000 tons of used PET bottles annually, reducing in a great extent the amount of plastic waste, while allowing at the same time these bottles to be reused in the production process and of course lead as a result to several important environmental benefits.
