Armed Robberies Fugitive Arrested

gunsA 37-year-old Greek fugitive, reportedly a member of a gang that had committed several armed robberies at branches of banks and public organizations, as well as cash transfers in various regions in Attica and other districts, has been arrested in the Athens neighborhood of Peristeri.
In two of the robberies, gang members fired at police chasing them, wounding four officers. There were two warrants for his arrest for conspiracy, attempted murder, robberies and aggravated theft. He had already been convicted, in his absence, to a jail sentence of two-and-a-half years for forgery and smuggling.
The suspect, along with three more members of the gang  who were arrested, was charged with committing 29 armed robberies on banks and cash transfers of private security companies and taking part in five more robberies and attempted robberies and the theft of two motorcycles.
Weapons, bulletproof vests, a club, a fake ID card, eight cell phones, special banknotes and five vehicles were found in his house and in an underground parking the perpetrator was using and seized by police, officials said. The suspect was taken to the Misdemeanors Prosecutor of Athens as the investigation continues.
