Art Athina Fair Comes to Athens

artFirst launched in 1993 by the Hellenic Art Galleries Association, Art Athina stands today as one of the longest-lasting contemporary art fairs in Europe and the largest annual visual arts event in Greece, attracting 18,000 visitors. Art-Athina brings together significant Greek and foreign art galleries, cultural institutions, curators, collectors, art critics and art lovers.
Art Athina 2013 is in a far better financial position having received 480,000 euros from the ESPA program of the EU. The fair will be held in the Faliro venue hosting the most important art galleries, cultural institutions, curators, museums, art theorists, art critics and journalists from Greece, galleries, institutions and individuals from abroad.
More than 800 artists from four continents will be presented, and a rich program with round-table discussions, presentations, exhibitions of new and already established artists and interactive activities will also enrich the fair.
Marina Fokidis is the responsible curator for the Symposia, during which international personalities from the visual arts will hold speeches, such as Juan A. Gaitan (curator of the Berlin Biennial 2014), Alya Sebti (Artistic Director of the 5th Marrakech Biennale), Marieke van Hal (Founding Director of Biennial Foundation), Kaelen Wilson-Goldie (writer and critic based in Beirut), and Adnan Yildiz (Artistic Director of Künstlerhaus Stuttgart) and others. Artemis Potamianou organizes the Platform Project and curates the Contemporaries exhibition. The 18th edition of the Fair will also feature a VIP program for dealers and art collectors from around the world.
