Germans Hesitant to Invest in Greece

diafthora_246589692The economic situation in Greece, along with the prospects and opportunities for foreign investors, were the benchmarking topics of the workshop in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Munich.
The Deputy Minister for Development Notis Mitarakis and the Chairman of Invest in Greece Agency, Aristomenis Syngros, as well as the Chairman of TAIPED (Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund) Stelios Stavridis, made a great effort to present a Greece which implements the reforms that are necessary to attract foreign investors. However, the investors who participated in the event, still seemed rather reluctant to do so.
The President of the Greek-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Athens, Michael Maillis, pointed out that bureaucracy, corruption, justice delay and the feeling that the reforms are not applied are actually discouraging foreign investors. These are the main reasons that there has been such an absence of German investments in Greece, for many years now.
Nevertheless, Maillis insists that foreign investors will return, noting: “Under the right conditions, they will come on their own, to seize the opportunities that will appear. And there are going to be opportunities. Greece offers great potential. We must move fast in order to create those conditions as quickly as possible.”
