Greek Hotel Rates Fall By 15%

tourism_greece_542_355Despite the fact that summer has made its appearance and the tourist season has already began, the hotel prices in Greece continue to fall, according to data for May, published in the hotel price comparison search engine trivago.gr.
The reduction was 15% in comparison to 2012, with an average overnight accommodation price of 78 euros (against the previous year’s price of 92 euros). It is also stressed that this reduction rate in the cost of accommodation in Greece, is the largest in Europe, among the main summer destinations such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus and Turkey.
May 2013 is cheaper in comparison to May 2012 even for the most eminent and formerly expensive destinations, according to the website.
Rates fell at Agios Steganos in Mykonos almost 11% with an average accommodation price of 128 euros (144 euros in May 2012), in Chania the reduction rate reaches 15% with 62 euros per night (73 euros in 2012), in Hersonissos the average price is 55 euros and the reduction rate is 14% (64 euros per night in May 2012.
The cuts in Heraklion were 12% with an average overnight accommodation price of 80 euros (against 91 euros last year), in Matala the reduction was almost 31% with an average overnight accommodation price of 41 euros (59 euros last May), while in Elounda, although the prices are still maintained at high levels, however they were reduced in comparison to last year by 13% (183 euros in May 2012). The greatest reduction was observed in Benitses, Corfu with a rate of 54% and an average price of 48 euros per night, while the same period last year the average price amounted to 104 euros.
In Firostefani, Santorini, the average price is reduced by 28% in comparison to 2012 (130 euros against 181 euros last year), while in Karpathos the average price amounts to 44 euros per night, against 53 euros, which was the last year’s price (17%).
The same occurs in the Greek capital with a price reduction rate amounting to 13% and the average price to 84 euros (96 euros last May), while in Thessaloniki the reduction rate is significantly higher, 20%, and the average price is 74 euros (93 euros last year).
