Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, talking to the Hellenic-Chinese business forum in Shanghai, called Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in Greece and to increase their business transactions with Greek entrepreneurs.
“Those who invested in Greece’s failure were disappointed. We are fighting and we will win the battle, there’s no other choice for us. Greece writes its own success story, the Grexit is dead,” said Samaras, repeating his constant mantra that the country is recovering and worth investing in, although a previous government imposed 74 percent losses on bondholders and nearly wiped out some Diaspora faithful.
He also added: “The political and economic stability in Greece is assured, the three-party coalition government is compact and the three parties proved that they can cooperate,” citing that his New Democracy Conservative administration has brought the PASOK Socialists and tiny Democratic Left in line.
The Prime Minister said that the Chinese who will invest more than 250.000 euros in real estate, will be given a five-year residency visa for Greece, without other conditions. “The Greek economy is becoming extroverted and we are planning our export strategy. In parallel a program of 28 big privatizations is in progress. We change Greece and we put it in the international map of attractive investment destinations,” he said.
Samaras said Greece’s location as the southernmost entry point to the European Union is an advantage to reach markets and be a distribution point as well. “Our world changes, China exports to all over the world, Greece is member of the EU. Greece can become the gateway for the promotion of Chinese products in Europe,” he said.
He said that, “Shanghai is one of the world’s largest cities and the metropolis of China’s economic growth. During my visit I came closer to the Chinese culture and civilization that reminds us the country’s contribution to the world civilization. The Greeks respect the Chinese culture and feel close to it. Socrates and Confucius lived at about the same time· Confucius taught the way to Wisdom, Socrates the Way to Virtue, we should create our own way of cooperation. Greece and China are ready to cooperate more closely”.
