Police Break Auto Theft Ring

images.watchit.grThe police broke up the gang which had stolen more than 3,000 cars over the last four years. Ten people were arrested, four others are still wanted.
Ten people – three Greeks and 7 Pakistani- aged from 19 to 24 years old were arrested in the region of Ano Liosia in Athens, while four other Greeks are wanted as members of the gang who have been stealing cars, dismantling them and selling their parts.
Among the arrested is a 32-year-old Greek, the leader of the organization, who maintained an auto parts trading business in Ano Liosia. The business was used as a “showcase” for the gang’s activities, while he recruited members, who chose and stole specific types and models of cars at his request.
Then, they would carefully transfer the stolen cars to the 32-year old man’s salvage yard. According to the police research, every night almost two to five cars would enter the business.
There, the license plates of the stolen cars were either taken by the people who transferred the cars, or they were immediately destroyed with the use of oxygen by the workers of the salvage yard, always under the guidance of the 32-year old. At the same time, they tampered the frame and engine serial numbers, or would erase them with the use of oxygen.
Then they removed their parts and accessories, such as wheels, seats, electronic systems, engines, doors and other parts and would sell them.
The police investigated the business and house of the 32-year-old and the others arrested and have found and seized many parts and accessories, as well as some vehicles.
