Greek Waiters Practice Balancing Acts

servitoriHolding a tray full of glasses and a bottle of drink, waiters from all over Greece and other European countries ran a service -race on the morning of May 27.
The race started from the Temple of Olympian Zeus and through Lysicratous, Lysiou, Philellinon streets and Amalias Avenue, ended in the Dionysius Areopagite pedestrian street, where the first three waiters with fewer losses were awarded.
“The competition, Waiters with Tray in Hand,” in its second year, aims at promoting traditional Greek service and hospitality,” stated Antonis Rallis, responsible for the organization to AMNA.
“In Greece there are people working and giving their best,” said Andreas Martzakis, president of the Shopkeepers of Plaka Association, which is co-organizer of the event, and added: “We show that the crisis does not intimidate us and that we can always offer the best services in the world, as long as the state helps us maintain our low prices by reducing the VAT in the catering sector.”
