Special Guards For Greek Trains

eidikoi_frouroi_04-06-2013Thirty-five special guards are going to be on Greek trains as ordered by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks after a series of negative events on many routes.
Incidents caused by marginal elements, threats by fare evaders and what authorities said were crimes caused by extremists, which they said forced the Ministry to immediately take measures to increase passengers’ safety.
The 35 special guards will be placed on trains for ticket checking and identity checking.
Meanwhile, harsher punishments for the thieves and receivers of stolen copper are going to be imposed according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development. The legislation will increase the penalties for theft, and suggests that the offense is punishable with imprisonment and the sentence will not be redeemable.
At the same time, according to Imerrissia, the Economic Crime Unit will start investigating foundries and companies dealing with scrap in order to find the fences in the network of OSE and disable the circuits of the illegal market.
