Illegal Immigrants Arrested On Lesbos

metanastis_533_355Some 95 immigrants were detained on the island of Lesbos, which is close to Turkey, and now a preferred landing spot because of a fence built along the Turkish border. The immigrants arrived at the port of Mytilini, capital of the island, on June 5-6.
Authorities said two smugglers were arrested initially and then the immigrants unlawfully brought in were being kept in detention, including three women and three children.
Thirty were found and arrested in the morning at the marine area of Mersinia islets, about 2 1/2 miles off ghe coast. They were aboard a motorized inflatable boat and did not possess legal documents, as reported in the Greek news portal LesvosPost.
When the immigrants realized the presence of the floating patrol boats, they destroyed their own boat. They were collected safely and were transferred to the Port Authority. A preliminary inquiry, according to the act of being committed procedure, is being conducted by the Central Port Authority of Mytilini.
