Solder Killed by M113 Roll-Over in Gully

tethorakismenoM113_533_355The roll-over of an M113 armored personnel carrier was the cause of a soldier’s death. The accident occured in the early morning hours of June 4, on an access road by the Athens-Lamia National Road, close to the region Sykamino, Oropos.
The soldier who was driving the armored vehicle lost his life, as it was confirmed by the Army General Staff. The vehicle went off its course and fell into a gully, leading to the driver’s tragic death.
The M113 was in a convoy bounding to Oropos port in order to embark on a tank landing ship and participate in a military exercise.
A sworn administrative inquiry and preliminary investigation by the competent military authorities have been ordered. The Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Athanasios Tselios, went to the scene of the accident to coordinate investigations.
The political and military leadership of the Ministry of Defense express their condolences to the soldier’s family.
