Lekakis praised the contribution of Onassis Foundation both for the hospital’s donation to the state and the support it offers at various domains of the hospital’s function.
The Onassis Center “changed a whole societal culture concerning the very sensitive matters of the heart diseases, the seeking of solutions abroad, the financial drain that this implies,” Archbishop Ieronymos said through his representative.
Lykourentzos pointed out that the state trusts the center’s work and despite the unprecedented financial difficulties, it seeks further upgrading of its services and wished it a long and prosperous continuity to its work.
The event was completed with a music program, in which scholars of Onassis Foundation participated. The center is a hospital specializing in cardiovascular surgery and in diagnosting interventional cardiology.
It was designed, built, equipped and furnished by the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. It operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Health as a non-profit institution, according to the Center’s website.
