Composer Kraounakis Praises Natasa Karamanli

kraounakisStamatis Kraounakis, one of the most important contemporary Greek music composers, referred to the time he was ill and almost lost his leg and to the medical assistance offered by Natasa Karamanli, wife of former Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis.
“For years they have been saying that I was the imperial composer of Natasa Karamanli. When I fell ill and I almost lost my leg, Natasa Karamanli was at the Laiko Hospital, by my side 20 hours a day,” Kraounakis said. He continued: “She washed my feet and changed the blood. Later, I went to a party of hers and played the piano.”
Concerning the rivalry that arose between him and Adonis Georgiadis, the Greek right-wing politician, on the occasion of a song, the lyrics of which were adjusted by Kraounakis to suit the new Health Minister, he noted the following words.
“Things were exaggerated, which I did not want. However, we did a lot of good to Mr. Georgiadis, who became Minister. I hope we do not fall ill,” the composer said and added, “I do not dislike Adonis Georgiadis, and as far as the notorious photograph is concerned, we took it during a cake cutting, because I did not want to offend those around me.”
