Municipal Police Occupy Athens City Hall

E813E4CBA6CBF665D07E1DCB7F3CA79CMunicipal police officers set to be fired by the government to meet orders of international lenders to reduce the public workforce occupied Athens City Hall on July 10 and union leaders said the protest would escalate to the takeover of virtually all public buildings in the country.
POE OTA, the Panhellenic Federation of Workers of all specializations in the Municipalities and local communities of Greece, organized the action.
POE OTA’s  Executive Secretariat decided unanimously to occupy all municipal buildings in country as a first act of protest against the government’s agreement with the Troika concerning the abolition of municipal police service and the service of school guards.
There were reports the occupations would go on for at least a second day as the unionists vowed to stand resolved against the coming firings. Workers said they would also strike on July 13-14 and hold a concert and rally July 15 in Syntagma Square.
Finally, POE OTA is going to appeal to the Council of State asking for the new law to to be judged as unconstitutional while is asks from KEDE to do the same along with all public services and all together to join forces in a common front.
