Greece Hits New Unemployment Record

unemployment _GreeceFigures released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority, have revealed that the Greek unemployment rate hit higher levels in April 2013, reaching 26.9%, which represents an increase of 0.1% since March, 26.8%.
Moreover, according to economist Angelos Tsakanikas’ statement at the IOBE think tank, The important fact is that almost two out of three people have been out of work for over 12 months.
Within a month, when the tourist season started, about 24,025 people lost their jobs, which means that the officially unemployed reached the shocking amount of 1,337,621 Greeks.
Furthermore, a reduced number of economically inactive people has been recorded, that is those who are not working nor seeking a job.
Specifically 23,770 people have lost their job in comparison to April 2012, a decrease of 7%, and 20,218 people in comparison to March 2013, a decrease of 0.6%, reaching the amount of 3,337,051 Greeks. The central bank predicts unemployment will peak at 28 percent before it starts declining in 2015.
