Explosion Rocks Larissa Building

EKRIXI_626_355A big explosion occurred at 4:05 a.m. on July 20 in a 50-unit apartment building in the central Greek city of Larissa which includes the residence of a prosecutor who had been overseeing the case of Panagiotis Vlastos’ attempted escape from Trikala Prison. She was away on holiday when the blast occurred
Police said suspects placed a 4.5-kilogram (9.9 pounds) explosive device containing dynamite at the entrance of the building. No one was hurt and it was not reported whether the prosecutor was a target or the bomb an attempt to frighten. Police said nearly 100 cars, homes and shops were damaged.
The building was immediately deemed unsafe and police quickly arrested a 39-year-old man from Kalamata. They said he failed to explain why he was in Larissa and when asked how he got there reportedly told them, “I do not remember.”
They said as he saw them approaching that he threw his cell phone on the ground and then stomped on it in an attempt to destroy it before he was arrested.
