Tourist in Crete Injured by Stray Bullet

poto_504_355A tourist on holiday on the Greek island of Crete, was enjoying his drink at the bar of the hotel he is staying. Suddenly, he felt an intense burning pain in his leg. The hotel owner called a doctor, who found the tourist had been injured by a bullet.
The tourist was transferred to the hospital in Rethymno, accompanied by the hotel owner and the doctor. The unfortunate tourist, who has suffered an injury on his left thigh, but which was not a through-and-through one, went into surgery at 12:00 to have the bullet removed.
The operation was successful and the tourist, who remains hospitalized, is in good health.
It seems that the tourist was possibly injured by a balothia, which is a Cretan custom, according to which, during feasts, weddings and celebrations, Cretans shoot into the air and make a lot of commotion. The trauma shows that the bullet was shot from a distance.
The investigation to find the bullet’s origin is in progress.
