Patras Metropolitan: No Sunday Work

mitropolitis_patron_thronos_631_420The Metropolitan Chrisostomos of Patras ha called on the faithful to resist to the opening of shops on Sundays and not to buy anything or work “even if they are hungry.” He didn’t say what the meant about stores that are currently open on Sundays, including liquor stores and convenience stores.
With the government planning to allow greater Sunday openings for stores, he called for a “spiritual resistance in front of the steamroller which intends to flatten every spiritual thing in this world, to deconsecrate life, to turn people into desperate masses”.
He said he opposes Sunday openings from a spiritual point of view and called on the government not to proceed with the plan. “People have a great power and can move mountains. This place was saved and will be saved again by the church,” he said.
He said people should abstain from all work on Sunday.
