Greek Students Are Smoking Addicts

tromaktikoSmoking continues to be one of the most common bad habits among Greek teenagers. According to researchers, headed by leading epidemiologist Jonathan Eberson of Oxford University, smoke addicts lose four years of their lives. Moreover, smoking increases the risk of premature death, according to a new British scientific research.
In a survey conducted among secondary school students across Greece, it has been found that while the percentages of male and female students who smoke are 6.6 % and 5 % respectively during junior high school there is a dramatic increase among senior high school students, hitting 23, 5% and 22.2% respectively.
In addition, it is revealed that students who are more prone to smoking, tend to be more negative towards physical exercise, sports and healthy eating, and more positive towards football violence and drug use. Furthermore, the research highlights that the problem of the extremely rapid rise in teenage smoking comes either from the influence of parents and the family environment or from friends and peers.
Among others, there was also a correlation between the use of cigarettes and weekly training as when 70 % of smokers started jogging or generally running, they simply stopped smoking.
