Euro Chess 2013 in Crete

euro_chess_bullcoverGreece is a lively country with structures and an economy which functions normally rather than an impoverished country as often shown by the foreign media.
This remark was made during a press conference on September 5 on the occasion of the 8th Euro Chess that has been taking place in Greece for the first time at the Caldera Beach hotel in Gerani, western Crete.
The tournament started on September 5, and will run till September 8. In the chess championship of the European Union Central Banks, 70 employees from ten central banks of Austria, Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Italy, Holland, Hungary, Turkey, the Czech Republic and Greece are participating.
During  the press conference, the Mayor of Platanias, Mr. Malandrakis emphasized, “This tournament is a good opportunity to upgrade the image of our country abroad.” He also stressed among others that, “With great pleasure we host in our municipality the 8th Euro Chess of the European central banks. Through this chess weekend, all competitors and those who accompany them, will be given the opportunity to get to know the place, its beauties and cultural monuments us as well as our products.”
The event runs under the auspices of the Employee Federation of European Central Banks.
