Protesters Attack MP Pavlopoulos

παυλοπουλοςThere was tension outside the Parliament when the employees of the mining and metallurgical company LARKO, who were having a protest rally, saw New Democracy MP Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
The protesters started shouting “thieves, thieves” and some of them threw bottles of water at him, while someone threw water on his face.
After the intervention of the riot police, Pavlopoulos managed to escape the crowd and the incident ended.
The employees of LARKO did not condemn their colleagues who attacked the MP during the protests today. The president of the Miner’s Union, Giannis Fourtakas, told zougla.gr that, “The country should be relieved of this government as soon as possible.”
Fourtakas, exercising strong criticism on the policy of privatizations, expressed the opinion that the small cost necessary for LARKO to continue operating will be given to the individual who will acquire the company, while he stressed that the unions’ suggestions regarding consolidation of state entities were never taken seriously.
Finally, when asked to comment on his colleagues’ attack against Pavlopoulos, he stated, “In the current situation, we cannot condemn anything.”
