Last Enclaved Greek- Cypriot Passes Away

590_7bf35400d322e53cb803d375c6712de4The last enclaved Greek- Cypriot, Angeliki Karefillidi-Yasar, was buried in occupied Kyrenia in an atmosphere of inexpressible anguish. She passed away at the age of 85 in the Nicosia General Hospital after a brief illness.
Since 1974, Angeliki was the “guardian angel” of the church of St. George in Upper Kyrenia, which was built in 1952, the year she got married. When the residents abandoned Kyrenia, she undertook to rescue the church and kept the keys.
Her body was transferred to her beloved city, where she lived in harmony for 62 years with her Turkish-Cypriot husband Sami. Many Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots were present at the funeral service, which was conducted in the church of St. George, and at the burial at the cemetery.
