Greek Students' Sex Life Thriving

According to a scientific research that was carried out at the University of Crete among the students of the Nursing Department, there has been an increase in Greek students’ sexual life.

Some 76.5 percent of the respondents have already had sexual intercourse, the average age being 17 for both sexes, while 10.7 percent of the respondents had their first sexual intercourse between the ages of 13 and 15. This study indicates that Greeks start their sexual life at younger ages.
A percentage of 71.4 older students of both sexes (16-43 years old) had their first sexual intercourse after turning 18. On the contrary, the percentage of younger students (17-18), that had their first sexual intercourse after 18 years old, hardly exceeds 13 percent. For most of them, their sexual partners were older (64.1 per cent), while 34.1 percent of the respondents were of the same age.
According to the study, boys seem to be more daring, as a percentage of 43.2 percent of male students answered that their first time was a one-night stand, whereas only 0.5 percent of female students answered that they had a one-night stand for their first sexual intercourse. Male students seem to have an indomitable libido, as 38.6 per cent answered that they had three or more different sexual partners during the last year, while the percentage of female students that answered the same question positively is only 11.3 per cent.
Scientists based on the conclusions of the research, mention that the lower the parents’ educational level is, the earlier  the age their children have their first sexual intercourse is.
The use of contraceptive methods and especially the use of male condoms, which is a very popular contraceptive method, protect young people from potential risks. In order to have normal sexual behavior, it is necessary to start Sex education (Sex Ed) at the early stages of life-probably in the last classes of elementary school- on a more permanent basis, and of course according to a person’s cognitive level.
