Bartholomew to be Declared Honorary Citizen of Thessaloniki

ThessalonikiEcumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will be declared honorary citizen of Thessaloniki, northern Greece, on Oct 26, after the decision of the city’s municipal council.
The formal City Council meeting will be held at 12:30 on the feast day of Saint Demetrius, Thessaloniki’s patron saint. The event will take place right after the liturgy has been conducted at the Church of Saint Demetrius in Thessaloniki.
The official ritual will be observed, which involves the municipal council welcoming Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople at the entrance of the City Hall. Then, Patriarch Bartholomew will be presented with the golden key of the city accompanied by an honorary plaque, as well as by the parchment of his declaration on which the decision of the municipal council will be written.
