Citizens in around Greece can exchange goods and services using money by bartering through a time system, an idea embraced by the town of Pavlos Melas.
The idea of “time exchange” is steadily expanding, as municipalities, networks of citizens, social associations and private initiative bodies adopt that idea which is developed in the spirit of exchanging services as well as products without money. In times when money liquidity is scarce but the needs are multiplied, the time takes a different dimension and constitutes the main point of many transactions.
“You need a dentist? You need help moving out or painting your room? You are interested in dancing, painting or foreign languages, you do translations or typing? Join the time-exchange which runs for a while,”  reads announcement of Pavlos Melas about the initiative.
The announcement explains at the same time that the exchange of services and goods is not interpersonal as if a member of the network offers a service or a good to an other member, the time he wins from this transaction, he can use it for receiving an other service or good from any other member of the time exchange.
Pavlos Melas is a municipality of the Thessaloniki Urban Area in the regional unit of Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia, Greece. It was named after the Greek hero of the Macedonian Struggle, Pavlos Melas.
