Record Year with 17,5 Million Tourist Arrivals

cretan beachAccording to estimates on Greek tourism, the number of arrivals in Greece are about 1,5 million, and the receipts of the visitors to the country will range in the ballpark of 800 million euros.
As ekathimerini reports, the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE) anticipates the total number of tourist arrivals for this year to reach 17,5 million, with the receipts reaching up to 11,5 billion euros, an estimation that goes far beyond any expectation for the course of  Greek tourism.
According to ekathimerini, the tourist season hasn’t yet finished in popular destinations, such as Crete and Rhodes, were the hotels are still working, maintaining a high occupancy rate, partly due to the crisis in Egypt. Willi Verhuven, owner of Alltours, the fifth biggest tour operator in Germany, said his company’s growth was led by the 26 percent increase in bookings to Greece this year, followed by a 17 percent rise for Bulgaria, against a 75 percent drop in bookings for Egypt.
Leading tour operator Tui, Peter Long said the prospects for next year are even better, estimating an increase of 300,000 visitors to Greece for 2014.
