According to Kathimerini newspaper, the Church of Greece is drafting a three-year economic schedule in an attempt to reduce its debt and to take advantage of its possessions to secure its independence, Archbishop Ieronymos stated during a session of the Holy Synod on Tuesday.
“The situation today is dire,” Ieronymos said, noting that the Church’s debts and the the financial situation in general have brought us to our knees.” He continued by saying, “a three-year program would present a picture of our debts and our reserves, as well as outlining the impact of a new legislative framework on the exploitation of our assets.”
Ieronymos highlighted that “without assets we will never have autonomy,” and also posed the question regarding a change in the relationship between the Church and the state.
“Will we let events overtake us?” the archbishop added and suggested the composition of a  committee of clerics and independent experts to talk about the possible revision and its involvements in the Church.
