Simitis President of Greek Republic in 2015?

SIMITIS2Costas Simitis, former Greek prime minister (1996-2004) and PASOK leader, aims for the presidency of the Greek Republic in spring of 2015, according to his intimate circle. This is the reason behind his more and more frequent appearances in public recently, and the “strategic agreement” with PASOK leader, Evangelos Venizelos for the creation of a new centre-left alliance.

Meanwhile, the former Greek prime minister aims for a moral victory over  those who were strongly opposed to his decisions during his tenure (1996-2004). That can be deduced from the speech that Simitis gave in the frame of George Vasileiou-former President of Cyprus – book’s presentation. With his speech Costas Simitis attacked both Costas Karamanlis and Jose Manuel Baroso for the “inflated” Greek debt in 2004, and he gave credits, on how the newly elected government under his leadership back in 1996, managed to face the Imia crisis.
Some political circles, also believe that if Costas Simitis is proposed for the presidency of the Greek republic (a scenario that Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras does not seem to approve) a reformulation of the political parties would be more easily achieved, and particularly, the foundation of a new European political party in order to face SYRIZA.
The elections of the presidency of the Greek Republic in spring of 2015, are really crucial according to real.gr, especially if by that time we do not have snap parliamentary elections. The scenario of snap parliamentary elections should be considered certain, as the opposition will do everything within its power to cause parliamentary elections, even if Maximos Mansion, a member of SYRYZA, would be proposed as a candidate for the Presidency of Greek Republic.  This is something that the Greek Prime Minister seems to be aware of, and he strongly believes that his government would endure only until that time.
