“Μarathon Runner” Protest Arrives in Athens

44-45-2-thumb-mediumAt 10am, it was expected for the school wardens to reach Syntagma Square. The “marathon runner” march of  Greek school wardens began in Thessaloniki on the 28th of September with slogan “Marathon of Primary surplus, Unemployment, Poverty and Destitution,” ended up on Monday morning at the Marathon Tumulus. The participants of this march protest against the availability measure that affects 2,234 collegues.

Yesterday, the school wardens arrived at ERT facilities in Agia Paraskevi with their fists raised and all wearing black shirts. There, the school wardens met the former employees of ERT before heading for parliament. Earlier, on Sunday, the marchers reached Afidnes tolls where they also had a meeting with the school wardens of Athens.
In addition the local government employee union POE-OTA called a three-hour walkout, between 10am and 1pm, to allow everyone to participate in the “marathon runner” march of school wardens. ADEDY also made a similar call to all employees in order to participate in the walkout and show their solidarity to the school wardens and their fair demands. ADEDY had also encouraged all employees to welcome the marchers of the ‘’Marathon” in every city from where they pass in an earlier announcement.
The place where the “Marathon runners” will meet the solidarity, happens in Agia Paraskevi. The march will end up outside the Greek Parliament where representatives of the education society will expect the protesters.
Due to the march, road traffic police announced that the traffic circulation will stop on certain main roads.
