The house where Kostis Palamas was born and grew up in, is now for sale. The financial crisis prevents the Municipality of Patras from buying it, and now the house is looking for news owners. The crucial point of the case, is that the house of our national poet is for sale.
The historic neoclassical style house had been neglected due to the disregard of his descendants,and of the people of Arts and Literature and of the municipality of Patras. The house has suffered a lot of damages. Time has been merciless, and with rats and insects as the only visitors, the house is reminiscent of a “horror house.”
Even though it is located in the center of the city, it is abandoned and has suffered looting. The large real estate office in the city of Patras which is responsible for putting the house on the market, announced that the selling price of the house is at around 1.6 million Euros. After the sale, a marble plaque will be left to remind us that the national poet resided there.
