Venizelos, we want Talks on Economy

venizelos_390_0310Greece’s Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Evanghelos Venizelos on Thursday said Athens ‘is not asking for political negotiations’ but rather for ‘influential political interlocutors who are able to understand the real data and dynamic of numbers in order to hold talks on the economy’.
Venizelos was speaking during a meeting with members of the European affairs and foreign committees of Parliament ahead of the Greek EU presidency.
‘The debate concerning ongoing talks on the economy is unfair to Greece as it undervalues sacrifices made by the Greek population and ignores the economic goals achieved’, added Venizelos.
Talking about the first semester of 2014, when Greece will be holding the rotating presidency, the deputy premier said ‘the Greek presidency will have to confront many problems until European elections’.
‘New forms of euro-skepticism have emerged which were not anticipated and could become impossible to control’.
‘We have a very conservative Europe’, Venizelos also said, talking about the current political situation.
‘It is very important to stress that all member countries are equal in front of the law. Europe needs to overcome the crisis. We must however also talk about a Europe-State, a Europe which will be able to resist to the pressure of international competition thanks to development, employment and social cohesion’, added Venizelos.
