Court Decides University Strikes are Illegal

University AthensThe situation in the Greek universities has led to a complete deadlock.
The leadership of the Ministry of Education appealed to the court asking for the strike of administrative employees to be called illegal and abusive. Early on Wednesday morning, the court decided that the strike is illegal but not abusive.
The administrative employees who are protesting the suspension and report errors in the lists of “available” suspended staff, drawn by ASEP, will meet at 12.oo in Propylaea, in Athens to decide their next moves and whether they will announce a new strike (after the court’s decision) or not.
After the decision of the general assembly of the Technical university, many students will return to classes but the majority will continue the strike. The students of Athens University decided to proceed with occupying the building of the law school and the departments of physics, mathematics, biology, education and informatics.
The administrative employees at the universities in Patra and Thessaloniki, who are not being affected by the controversial measure, decided to go on strike until Friday, while allowing teaching to continue as normal. The University of Ioannina, which was also on a 48-hour strike, will reopen today.
