New Democracy & SYRIZA Share Lead in 2 New Polls

Greek_PollsTwo new opinion polls show that it is difficult to gauge who is really ahead, New Democracy or SYRIZA? According to Metrisis poll, carried out on behalf of the newspaper “Parapolitika,” the popularity of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn — currently under investigation for alleged anti-immigrant violence and other criminal activity —  is spiraling downhill. The Democratic Left is under 3 percent which is the threshold needed to be in parliament. The Greek voters that have not yet made up their mind are still in the lead at 30.6 percent.
New Democracy leads by 0.9 percent over the main opposition party SYRIZA. In terms of voting in specific, ND stands at 21.5 percent, while SYRIZA is at 20.6 percent. In third is the extreme-right party, Golden Dawn, with 6.1 percent which is a rather declined percentage in  comparison with other recent polls. The Communist Party (KKE) follows with 4.9 percent and PASOK stands at 4.3 percent. Right behind the coalition party stands Independent Greeks (ANEL) with 4.1 percent. DIMAR stands at 1.6 percent and is out of the Greek parliament.
On the issue of who would be the most suitable political leader for the position of prime minister, coalition leader and current Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras received a 37.2 percent from those who participated in the opinion poll, followed by SYRIZA chief, Alexis Tsipras, with 27.1 percent.
However, the Marc’s poll, conducted on behalf of the newspaper “EPENDITIS,” gives SYRIZA a 1.4 percent lead over ND. According to Marc, SYRIZA is in the lead with 23.2 percent, followed by ND with 21.8 percent. Third, was the extreme-right Golden Dawn, followed by the Independent Greeks (ANEL) with 5.2 percent. KKE comes fifth with 5.1 percent, PASOK with 5 percent and DIMAR stands at 4.5 percent.
