Protesting School Wardens Arrested

 Riots

At about 5 am on Tuesday morning, eighteen school wardens gathered outside the Ministry of Administrative Reform to protest against the dismissal and suspension measures that they are facing. Some of the wardens who managed to get to the Ministry’s roof, were arrested and taken to the Central Police HQ.  The rest of the demonstrators continued their protest outside the Ministry.
The demonstration escalated to violence when MAT police units arrived and were deployed at the entrance.
After news of the detainment reached the demonstrators’ ears, the latter attempted to expand their protest to the streets. Two of the demonstrators  needed medical attention and went to the hospital after MAT police units intervened with tear gas and volleys of chemicals.
“This is Democracy — being beaten up for no reason,” one of the demonstrators stated after explaining that their only request was to speak with the Minister of Administrative Reform, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
