Famous Greek Composer Mikis Theodorakis Hospitalized

mikis_theodorakisWorld renowned Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis was rushed to the Medical Center of Athens, Greece, where he was hospitalized with a lower respiratory tract infection.
Theodorakis had a high fever and was quickly admitted so that the doctors could monitor his condition. According to his treating physician, Dr. Rapakoulias, the situation is under control. He said the patient is able to communicate and the medical staff has managed to control his fever at 37.2 degrees Celsius.
His hospitalization was deemed necessary in order for the doctors to be able to subject him to all the essential tests. Theodorakis had been hospitalized last year at the Medical Center of Athens with a respiratory infection.
Theodorakis is thought to be the most well-known Greek songwriter and composer alive today. He has written more than 1,000 songs, including scores for the movies “Zorba the Greek,” “Z” and “Serpico.” He had always been politically active, especially during the Greek military junta that eventually imprisoned him. To this day, he continues to support left-liberal causes and speaks in favor of Greek-Turkish-Cypriot relations.
On December 3, he officially became an honorary member of the Athens Academy during a ceremony in his honor, where the President of the Academy, Spyros Evangelatos, gave a speech about Theodorakis’ character and his contribution to the Greek nation.
